The Craftsman Behind the Nail

I'm David Pinn, the Chippy. Husband, father of four, and lover of all things that require an attention to detail. My love of handcrafted detail work started in Ontario as a blacksmith/bladesmith for several years. It then switched to cabinetry for a while, before we moved to the Maritimes and I started building houses from the ground up. I soon realized that, while the beginning of a house build was enjoyable, my passion exploded when we were tying all the loose ends together with perfectly hung doors, level trim, and seamless baseboard. Thus, my love of finish carpentry was born.

With roots in the forge and years spent shaping and finishing metal by hand, I bring an uncommon precision to every piece of trim I fit.

As a solo operator, there are no middlemen — I'm on every job, personally ensuring each mitre is tight, each casing is plumb, and each detail is seamless. The blacksmithing background isn't just a talking point. It taught me to read materials, respect the process, and understand that quality finish work starts with the craftsman's discipline — not just the nail gun.

Whether you're a homeowner wanting trim that transforms a room or a builder who needs a reliable finish carpenter to keep the schedule moving, you'll get the same thing: one tradesman, total accountability, and detail work done right.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is a trim carpenter different from any other carpenter?

Trim carpenters tend to focus on final, visible work, like hanging doors, installing trim, baseboard, crown moulding, etc., whereas regular (or rough) carpenters often build the structure (framing, walls, roof). There often is overlap in these jobs, a trim carpenter building part of the structure or a carpenter doing some trim work, for example. I myself have dabbled in both rough and trim carpentry.

What materials do you use for trim?

I use everything from MDF, natural pine, primed pine, and hardwood in my trim, baseboard, and crown moulding.

Do you offer any carpentry services other than trim work?

Yes! I can do small renovations including drywall, crackfilling, painting, built-in cabinets, flooring, and more! I've even been known to build a deck or two when the weather is nice!
